New SOAR Video Guidance

A new SOAR guidance video has been created, replacing the live online training sessions which we used to run: http://www.appraisal.nes.scot.nhs.uk/help-me-with/soar/overview.aspx

The guidance is a replica of the training sessions, providing an overview of what the Appraiser and Appraisee needs to do on SOAR.  Additional commentary is also provided around general common appraisal and revalidation queries.

If you have any queries that the video (or guidance on the Medical Appraisal Scotland website) didn't answer, please submit a ticket to the helpdesk - SOAR@nes.scot.nhs.uk

SOAR Performance Issues with IE: Disable Autosave

In the last deployment we implemented a site-wide autosave function for all users. Since then we have had a few reported issues with the speed of SOAR.

Following extensive user feedback and testing, we have determined that this performance issue is related to the use of Microsoft's web browser, Internet Explorer.

Everyone who reported the issue was able to get round it by either using a different web browser, or their own device at home.

We appreciate that it is not always possible to change or upgrade the web browser you use in hospital offices or GP practice computers. So, to remedy this:

  1. We have extended the autosave to trigger every 60 seconds (instead of 10); and
  2. We have created a function where users can disable the autosave for themselves.

You will see the disable function in the header after you have logged in to SOAR. To disable/enable the autosave, please click on the Autosave status in the banner, and it will take you to your profile page to update your settings.

For more details on this issue, please visit: http://www.appraisal.nes.scot.nhs.uk/news/ieissues.aspx

Advice on recommended Supporting Information

There is an awareness that the recommendations for supporting information for appraisal require to be streamlined where possible and the focus should be on the quality of the material rather than the quantity of supporting information provided.
